Mozambique 2009

I had the privilege of seeing an 18-year-old man born deaf and mute receive his hearing and his speech. His father, followed by several villagers who verified his condition, brought him to an outreach meeting. Doctors Joshua and Candy Brown verified his hearing with a sophisticated machine that confirmed his total deafness. Heidi took him in her arms and spoke the father’s love into his ears. She prayed for him and suddenly his whole face lit up. His eyes started shining and his whole countenance changed. There was a bit of confusion as to the degree of which his hearing had improved, as he did not quite understand instructions given by Joshua and Candy. But he heard Heidi clap and click her fingers and repeated after her. Then she spoke words that he repeated after her. Elation, awe and excitement followed as we experienced the mighty power of our faithful God. This man heard and spoke for the first time in his life. All glory to God.

On the outreach, I prayed for so many people that I could not remember them all. But I do remember these. I prayed for eight people with eye problems, none were totally blind. When finished, all had a big smile, shook my hand and gave the thumbs up. There were 10 with hearing problems.

Then a young boy turned me around and pointed at his arm. I asked him where to pray. That is when I saw the tumor under his forearm. It was about 3” to 31/2” long and 1” to 11/2” wide. I prayed over it three times and God took it away. GONE! Praise the Lord, my first tumor. Jesus did it. Three with back problems healed and three with chest and stomach problems healed.
Next day in the back of the medical tent an 80-year-old blind woman was sitting on the ground. Jack and I were called over. Jack put his hand on her shoulder, and I wet my fingers and placed them on her eyelids and prayed. A little light came in and we prayed three more times and then she could see clear across the compound. Praise His name. Then we found out she could not use her right knee, she was crippled and could not walk without help. I told Jack to pray for her knee while I put my hand on her shoulder. We then helped her up. She left her cane pole on the ground and started to walk, and then she started to kick with the bad right leg. Healed. Praise God! Thumbs up on all counts, thanks to Jesus, praise His name!

There were prayers for the healing of children. There was a small child of about 7 or 8 years of age with neck pain and a headache. I was asked to pray for the child. I felt the left side of his neck and it was swollen. As I prayed for the Lord’s kingdom to come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, I said, “Be healed in Jesus’ name.” I asked the boy through the translator if his neck hurt he said no all the pain was gone. I reached over to touch the left side of his neck and all swelling was gone. The child indicated that the headache was still present, so I prayed again for the residual symptoms of Malaria to be gone and said be healed in Jesus’ name. The translator asked about the headache and the child said it was completely gone!

We were out in the bush and started the medical clinic early in the a.m. There was an elderly woman who was Muslim and could not see very well. In fact she could not see at a distance. After speaking with her she chose to accept the Lord as her Savior. With prayer, her vision was restored to 20/20 -20/15, which is excellent. She made a comment that was prophetic and profound. Through the translator she said the village was changed and that Jesus now reigned in the land. My heart was filled with love and the Lord’s amazing love and power overwhelms me. How great is our Lord!

At the visitors’ center a visitor complained of an ongoing back problem, which had not yielded to prayer for healing. A group of people prayed for him and had little results but this led us to check his legs and we found that one leg was significantly shorter than the other. The group prayed for him for a couple of minutes and watched the leg grow in front of their eyes.

After a morning session by Randy Clark, I had a word of knowledge for someone that there was a pain in his testicles. Two men responded for the word. After prayer they both reported that all the pain left. Several other men came for prayer too. One man reported pain in his abdomen as a result of, or subsequent to Malaria. He told us that as we prayed he felt something come out of his chest and the pain left. Another man had pain in his leg. As we stepped forward he reported that the pain moved down his legs and as soon as we laid hands on him the pain left his leg.

June 4, 2009
At the village outreach after the meeting I prayed for several children who all came up reporting pain in their abdomens. They all reported all the pain was gone!

June 5, 2009
Steven, a team member suddenly came down with a strong pain in his kidneys on Friday morning. After praying the pain subsided and was totally gone within ten minutes.

June 7, 2009
During church my left hand began to grow hot. I asked around me if anyone had need for healing. A man brought his wife for prayer. She was crying from pain in her teeth. I prayed for her by placing my hands on each side of her face. All pain left the right side of her face, (where my left hand was), I reversed my hands and prayed again and the pain on the left also went away.

One of our team members has had longstanding lower back problems. When we held out his legs we could see that the right one appeared shorter than his left. As we prayed, they became the same length and he has been pain free since, despite sleeping on a terrible bed.
An elderly man came to the medical tent complaining about his long distance vision. After prayer, he could accurately describe things in the distance.

An elderly lady came to the medical tent complaining of aches and pains all over. She repented of going to the witch doctor, renounced witchcraft and as she started to move around she was completely set free so she could jump up and down and dance around without pain.

We saw hundreds of people saved in the outreaches as the masses came to see the Jesus film and hear Mama Ida (Heidi) preach along with Randy Clark and David Hogan. We saw hundreds of people get healed as well and hundreds fed. On the second outreach we saw 6 deaf people get healed and several people with vision problems (all verified by Josh and Candy Brown) healed. One of the neat personal applications I learned on the outreaches is the dedication Heidi and David Hogan have to seek the Lord as I would awake around 5am to both of their voices praying in tongues and seeking God before everyone else was awake! What devotion and love for the Lord and no wonder God is doing such a mighty work through both of their ministries. It also shows the commitment and price to be paid.

I went to the Pemba Beach Hotel the first week to arrange a breakfast for our team and there was a group of workers talking to us and I got a word of knowledge for back pain and 2 staff members acknowledged that they had pain. We prayed for both of them and they both got healed! A female staff member was mocking us at the beginning because we wanted to pray, but when she saw her friend get healed she immediately pointed to her abdomen where she had a tumor. We prayed and Jesus took all the pain away and she could not longer find the tumor! The manager asked us to go into another room and not out in the open, so we went into the kitchen area and the staff continued bringing co-workers in need of healing. We saw around 6-7 healed in those few moments! When we went back a week later to actually have our team breakfast, the same staff members were there and brought more staff for us to pray for and we saw 2 more healings while we had our breakfast. Yeah Jesus!

On our second outreach, I flew on the little Cessna airplane that held 6 people. There were only 3 of us, and we had to wait at the airstrip we landed on for the plane to go back and pick up Heidi and David Hogan. There were a group of Mozambicans just staring at us as we were out in the middle of nowhere on a dirt airstrip with a worn down shack as the “terminal.” Who knows when the last airplane landed there. So Ania, who is a missionary with Iris and serves Heidi as her personal assistant, started to talk to the group that were looking at us in Portuguese and I got a word of knowledge for the left stomach area. Two of the 4 men had that pain, we prayed and they were instantly healed and a 3rd man immediately pointed to his head complaining of a headache and migraines. We prayed and Jesus healed him as well! Ania led these 4 men to Christ because of the healings! Praise Jesus!

We prayed for a guy who could not make a fist and had pain in his hand. He had a bandage on and seemed to have a torn or broken tendon or ligament. We prayed for him and he felt some relief, he then took off the bandage. We began to pray again. Then he was completely healed with all pain gone. He was then able to make a fist and move his fingers. May the Lord be praised!

The quick immersion into ministry, when many had just gotten over the travel issues, just floored me. We just started along the way. On the airplane and in airports, each leg of the trip, there was either a couple going to holiday or to family visits, or a man on business. Each encounter, I shared our journey and destination. They all opened up and shared their own heart for such things. I believe that most people have a heart for the poor and rejected but have no place or means of expressions. Living gets in the way of life

Randy was teaching with an interpreter. While he was teaching I could see what appeared as a light distortion behind him. This “classroom” was just a concrete wall about 6 feet high enclosing an area of the corner of the main church. I believe that what I was observing were 2 angelic beings very tall and seated on the 6-foot wall. Their legs touched the floor and they were seated quietly but with authority over the area. When Randy finished, Nigel gave the word of knowledge; we did our prayer time right in front of the angels. Everyone we prayed for reported a healing. Malaria left a guy’s chest like a spirit being cast out. Another was healed even as we approached him, with hands held out to pray, and the pain moving down his leg and out of his foot.

We are daily invited to the school to sit with and pray for the children. The director asks if anyone needs prayer generally. Many raise their hands just to come up but there are also many with problems, with poor hygiene, with poverty and poor diet. A young boy came forward with both eyes swollen and stuck closed with puss. He is one of the best students in the school. He would pull open an eye so that he could see. We prayed over him and saw progressive change right then. He returned the next day with only minimal symptoms. Two days later he was completely healed. The doctor on our team noted that this is medically improbable to impossible because of the severe infection present at the start and no antibiotics.

Two days ago, Monday June 8, 2009, a girl about 11 years old came forward with an excruciating headache. This is not unusual for them to attend school while so ill because they are also served food. This girl was crying and had very red eyes. Malaria is a prevalent disease with the children and these kinds of symptoms: headaches and stomachaches are common during the prayer time. After praying for about 5 minutes, she said that the pain had diminished significantly. The next day she responded to the director’s request to give a testimony. She said she had been completely healed and she was exuberant, with a huge smile and clear white eyes. She hugged me and praised God.

I was on my way to visit SOS children’s village. They have a center not far from Iris. I walked with my interpreter and guide. On my way over we met three younger boys. After talking for a while I asked if they were sick. All three reported various sicknesses. One had an arm that was hurt and the others had head pain. All three reported through the translator that their pain went away after short prayers.

Matilda came to me on Thursday evening after Heidi prayed for the blind lady. She was looking very depressed, pointing to her eyes. Margaretha and I prayed for her. I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to wash her eyes with water, which I did. We prayed some more. When we asked her how her eyes were doing she indicated that it was better. I felt we still had to pray; she still looked depressed. After the prayers her face just lit up. She looked so much better, like a heavy load had been lifted off her shoulders. The transformation was quite incredible. While we were drinking coffee the next morning in camp a lady came to stand next to me with a big grin on her face. It was Matilda, she couldn’t stop laughing, and she had such a joyful spirit. She said her eyes were healed.

My visit to the hospital was so wonderful because God showed us how the joy that we received from Him can make a difference in somebody’s life. After we prayed for the sick the presence of God was just there, we laughed and danced. Then the sick wanted to laugh and dance as well. Then we prayed for them again. A young girl who had Malaria and an infection on her right hand said she had so much pain that she could not move her arm. After we prayed again she was able to move her arm up and down without any pain. She had a huge smile. Another lady fractured her right leg; it was swollen and she had lots of pain. We prayed over her again and one of the ladies in our group gave her a massage. The lady started moving her leg left to right, and moved her foot. She touched it, and then said the pain was gone and she began to move it. She had a big smile and then wanted to dance.

Healings: Limp wrist. Hand dropped when the boy held out his arm. I prayed three times and on the third time he regained strength and coordination in his hand and wrist. As well I saw backs and ankles healed. A young man pointed to what I thought were his ears and I prayed for him thinking he was deaf. He did not speak at first then he moved around his neck. I found out he was healed in his neck. His ears were fine.

On the trip I was wrecked when Heidi prayed for me during one of the midday sessions. God gave me a burden for the western bride. Of all the events of the trip, I believe that this is one of the big events that will produce the most fruit in the long run. He loves His western bride just as He loves His Mozambique bride and He is willing to pour out His love on us. I am filled with hope now.

Being the only male youth in our group there are a lot of older men and women really picking me up as their own son. They prayed for me, loved on me, corrected me, and watched out for me. It was great to see and experience the willingness of others to love without cost.

At the bush outreach at Cabo Delgado village in the medical clinic with Dr. Angela, the camp was separated into two sections and ours was the Nurse’s side. I witnessed three salvations. I led one Muslim woman to Christ and then we prayed for her healing. All of them felt the pain leave and reported feeling freedom and joy.

On June 8, 2009 while helping with feeding the kids on top of the hill, Cory, Paul and I prayed for this boy’s left leg/knee that was swollen and painful. His legs were visibly uneven. We kept praying for pain to go away and commanded the swelling to go down. Little by little, he reported that his pain was going away, and then his pain completely went away when he was about to eat. Sunday during church service after David Hogan spoke, I asked Mama Heidi to pray for me. She asked me to sit next to her. She held me for a very long time and she prayed for me while holding me. She laid her hands on my head and my feet and I strongly felt the Father’s love through her touch and her prayers. The Lord later on revealed to me that He was healing me of old wounds from my mother who has been sick with mental illness (schizophrenia) for a long time. Praise God!

It started when my throat started hurting. I was hanging around babies the day before so I assumed it was the beginnings of a cold that I caught from the babies. However, when I asked Steve V. to pray for me I saw a picture of a python snake. I was the first one of many who encountered the python. Steve V. ripped it off of me after I told him of the pictures I saw and I was better within three hours or so. Steve and I ripped off the snake on six or seven different team members. It seemed to be trying to hinder our weekend outreach. We had water problems for a few days. Steve began to perceive a connection between the python and the water problems and sin. The sin was accusations and judgments spoken against Iris in the form of a curse that restricted the flow of the Holy Spirit, which represented the water. The spirit sent to restrict the flow was the python snake.

I woke up one morning at 5 am disturbed in my spirit. I went to pray and saw a large python crossing the grounds and another snake on the vehicle that was going out to the bush that contained Heidi, David, Dilo, Tim and others. I prayed against the python in our small group that I was leading at 7 a.m. To my surprise, a confirmation, Steve had received a three-page letter about the python from an Iris staff member. We gathered leadership in Tim’s room for a meeting and began to read the three-page word. Something I forgot: Before Tim went out on the outreach, intercessors in the U.S had seen the python, and said it was one of the five heads of Jezebel. The snake was trying to quench the move of The Holy Spirit. As Steve read the letter, I saw in the spirit the snake raise its big head in the window. I was not terrified because I know I am blood bought. I thought to interpret Steve’s reading, but waited patiently. When Steve finished he went into repentance on behalf of the sin asking forgiveness, pleading before the throne with tears. The snake took off. Then after we all prayed we went to the meeting. Steve talked to the man controlling the water, and his report was that the water is coming up. I talked to him later that day, and he said it was full. Yeah God! Obviously all of us were tired of using the hole that doesn’t flush and taking sponge baths. So we rejoice in God’s work. Usually I don’t see things like this, but I have been praying for God to open my eyes to the spirit world and give me ears to hear.

There are so many testimonies to God’s awesome power. The two that stood out the most were when we went to the hospital to pray for people. I almost didn’t get to go because I was feeding the village kids at the top of the hill, and it took longer than expected, so I had to run down the hill, change and run to the truck. Thank you Jesus that I was able to go! The hospital outreach was one that I really wanted to do. When we got there we split our groups into two teams and each one covered a different section of the hospital.

The first room that our team went into had three patients in it. There was a little boy, but I do not know what was wrong with him. There was another lady with a broken leg. One might be drawn to a person with a bigger injury because the testimony would be awesome, but I was drawn to the little girl who seemed alert. So I went over to her and learned that she had malaria as well as an infection in her arm. So my friend Emily and I prayed for her. Because of the language barrier we had to share an interpreter, so we had to wait a bit to see if our prayers were successful. While I was waiting for the interpreter, the rest of the group gathered around the lady with the broken leg, and they were able to see the lady’s leg healed. Part of me wanted to go over there and see, but something was holding me back. I just could not let go of the little girl’s hand. When the girl’s Muslim family came in, a small part of me wanted to walk away because of the looks they were giving us but out of obedience to the Holy Spirit I stayed with her. When the interpreter came over, we learned that she was now able to move her arm that she had the infection in without pain. The girl said that earlier in the day it hurt to move it.

As we were walking out of the hospital, one of the nurses stopped us and told us about this young girl who was about to die. The girl just had a baby that morning but she was hemorrhaging and lost a lot of blood. The biggest problem was that the hospital ran out of the blood that she needed so they were giving her this clear liquid as a substitute. When the nurse brought us into the room, I saw this sickly girl who was barely alive. She was not alert to us coming in, her hands were a yellow/greenish color and when we touched her forehead it was cold. So all of us gathered together and prayed the blood of Jesus over her. We prayed for a while but as we were praying she became a little more alert. This was encouraging so we prayed even harder. Once we were done, we felt her head and it was warmer than when we started. Also, she was able to speak a little bit. Although we had to leave, we were excited to see what God had done in that hospital. It really encouraged me that God wants to perform such miracles in our own communities, not just in Africa.

I have been going to the village children feeding. Before the feeding we have various games and entertainment, much of it designed to communicate the gospel. We also often have prayer for sick children. This day I got to pray for a lot of children. The children had various sicknesses. We had an interpreter speaking the Macua language communicating with the children. In addition, some of their problems were visible. Three had ear infections, one had what looked like an eye infection giving him poor vision, and several had various pains. At least eight claimed that their problems as they perceived them went away after prayer. I do not remember praying for people that did not say they were healed. We tested the little boy with impaired vision through holding up random number of fingers at different length, and he answered correctly in all tests. We tested up to about 30 meters. The team of professors joining the trip was not at site, so it was difficult to do a more professional test.

I prayed for 20 to 30 people, but because of the language barrier, I was not often to determine the exact need. The vast majority expressed joy after prayer, so I’d like to believe that they were touched. The most outstanding was a woman called Matilda. She could barely see and her eyes appeared heavily infected and she could barely open them. Irene and I prayed for her and wanted more clarity on her condition. I found a Mozambican to talk to her and he also prayed. He confirmed that her sight had been extremely weak and that there was some improvement. We also prayed for joy. I told the Lord that it would be so wonderful to see her again the next morning. To our great joy there she was smiling and beaming with joy and her eyes were clear and bright. An adult man indicated a problem in his chest. I prayed about the pain. The man started breathing deeply and I prayed for clear airways. He smiled broadly and breathed in and out again and again. Next to him was another man pointing to his whole body. I prayed for freedom of the pain. He gave a thumbs-up-sign. Immediately after Randy asked that the healed should raise their hands, both men waived. I am overwhelmed by the power of God. He is so real! I am humbled that He would use me and I just want to pour out my life in love and adoration.

While on the bush outreach there was a little boy named Omar. After the Jesus film we called all the people up who wanted salvation and healing. He pushed his way forward and my teammate Jane and I began to pray for him. He had an eye infection. The right eye was so infected that he could barely open it. It had pus and mucous pouring out. The left eye was red and cloudy. Jane and I prayed again. He said that the left eye was healed. The redness and cloudiness left. The right eye, he was able to open but it still had a lot of mucous. He gave us the thumbs up and walked away. The next morning he ran up to us, and both his eye were healed. There was no mucous, redness or cloudiness.

I was prayed for in our group for a painful hip. Probably a result of osteoporosis diagnosed five years ago. I felt a release but the pain returned. Then on Thursday night on the outreach I danced African style with the youngsters until I couldn’t any more. I realized that the pain had completely gone, and it has not returned since. This was very significant for me, as I could not lie on my right side.

Arriving on the truck into the compound and seeing all the children waving, clapping and running alongside the truck brought tears. I realized immediately that this was a special place. The healing through my hands at the outreach was very faith building. A small boy with a shirt with multiple holes in it came up behind me and put his hand in mine. I talked about Jesus and then was called up by Randy to line up beside the truck to pray for salvations. Somehow my little friend got through the crowd and was standing in front of me. I led him to the Lord

I came to Africa to find my heart. Somewhere in the struggle to care for my family and my community I lost my heart and compassion. I lost the ability to mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. I guess my heart had become hard and weary. I figured if any person on earth could impart a heart of love to me it would be Heidi. I was right! I watched her hold and cry over people; she took each one of us into her heart and loved us. Each person has value in her eyes; I knew this by the honor she shows everyone and the loving way she listens to everyone. Her love makes me want to be a better person, to love Jesus more, to serve the heavenly Father more with a full heart. As I was thinking about what Heidi has imparted to me, it was the Grace to love like Jesus!

I think the things I enjoyed the most on the compound were the church time and the time with the village children! I loved to sit in the middle of them, loving on them while they poked, tugged and hugged me. I laid hands on, and prayed for 100’s of children! I love to do that! I got to pray with many women, to love them and ask the Lord to fill them and in a small way to help carry their burdens. Another thing I loved about our trip was the unity. All sorts of people from all walks of life, all church backgrounds and traditions coming together in Jesus’ name to love and serve. Blessings to Randy Clark for his awesome leadership, as this is a direct reflection of his heart and his values!

Lastly, I am very thankful for all the impartation I have received here in Mozambique through Randy, David, Heidi, and all the wonderful staff, missionaries, kids and fellow team members! I pray I walk out my life and ministry in a worthy way.

On the Bush Outreach we got to pray for the people in the village with the Mozambique pastors. The children thronged me and wanted to hold my hand and didn’t want to let go. I felt like the “Pied Piper” as we picked up more and more kids. As we walked through the dusty paths of the village, I got it, not fully, but I got somewhat of what it must have been like when Jesus walked the dusty streets of His day. How the children and the people must have thronged to Him. I remember when He was blessing the children and the disciples wanted to send them away. Jesus actually was indignant and He said to them, “Permit the children to come to Me, do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” As the people gathered for the Jesus film and prayer, I could see that when the people saw Jesus coming they ran to meet Him and great crowds gathered by the word of mouth. He healed every person that came to Him and met every need. Then Jesus says in John 14:12, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me and the works that I do, he will do also, and greater works than these he will do, because I go to the Father.” How precious is the invitation? How precious that Jesus, the Son of God, invites us to do what He did and even greater! How precious when your servants give the invitation for others to join them, to open the door for us to serve also, to come alongside. Randy and Heidi have done this. How exciting! Wow! God is on the move through His servants. What an awesome honor to see and to be a part of it in Africa!! May the “Dark Continent” become the “Bright Continent” shining Jesus’ love to the world! In the Name of Jesus!

Aside from the miraculous healings here on the compound and on the various outreaches, experiencing God’s constant presence was remarkable. Learning to hear him and see him in different ways will impact who I am here, now and through our ministry at home and in South-East Asia. New discernment was awakened in so many ways through power evangelism, power waiting/resting, and restful nights. I observed and contemplated how God touches people through others (including the kids), through the self-sacrificing models of Heidi, Randy, David, Tim, Todd, and others including some team members. Fantastic! Yes, the healing miracles were real sweet, but the internal ones will be the ones that are carried forth. So, to Cambodia in September! Thanks so much and striving to follow in His wake.

I am overwhelmed by the presence of God in this place. I am also aware of the strong presence of spiritual warfare. The enemy seeks to destroy what God is building up. It has been a constant struggle, and an incredible blessing at the same time. I know the victory is already won, but I must press in to receive it. My most treasured memories will be of the children’s faces, the bush outreach and of course all the anointed teaching. If I have to be honest, I have to say that I did not see and was not part of any miraculous healing that I am aware of. This is disappointing to me, but the trip is not over and I am still praying with expectation. Even if I do not get to witness any miraculous healings I will have been blessed beyond measure and the Lord will use this time in my life to accelerate my growth and move me into my final destiny.
