Understanding the doctrines of laying on of hands and baptisms

In Scripture, the early church was encouraged to move on from elementary teachings, not laying again the foundation of previously-understood teachings. Among those elementary teachings are listed two things: the laying on of hands and baptisms.

In the book of Acts, we see Paul and Barnabus set aside for the work of the ministry, and being sent out after having hands laid on them. We also see this ministry of laying-on of hands at other instances of the Holy Spirit being poured out. Paul later tells Timothy to stir up the gifts and calling that are within him from the laying on of Paul’s hands. Clearly there’s a very real transaction taking place in this laying-on-of-hands ministry which was vital to the early church. In fact, it was such a common part of their lives together that they were able to take it for granted.

Similarly, doctrines of baptisms were important, foundational, vital, and elementary to that first generation of Christ-followers. Two thousand years later, we have to dig a bit to see what those baptisms were. We see that the Holy Spirit baptises us into Christ, people baptise us in water, and Jesus baptises us into/with the Holy Spirit. It’s a beautiful, holistic cycle that we see in God’s design.

If you’ve been in our stream for a while, you’ve probably heard teachings on these topics. If so, I would encourage you to hop into the comments down below and write out prayers for those who are new to this, or to perhaps write out your own experience to encourage others. If, however, you are new to the baptism in the Holy Spirit, or to “impartation” (a short-hand term that refers to laying on of hands), take a half-hour to listen to today’s podcast above.

Be sure to listen all the way to the end, as I pray for you to receive a fresh touch from God. We look to the Father in this; it’s a sovereign work of God after all. Jesus said that “the Father longs to give the Holy Spirit to all who ask” (Luke 11:13), so take time to ask the Father, in faith, to be filled, over-filled, baptised, inundated with the Holy Spirit.

In this teaching, taken from my recent session at Global Summer Intensive, you’ll hear personal stories of ministering with Blaine Cook, Heidi Baker, Leif Hetland, and others. I touch on my story of being used by God, against all odds, to help spark revival in Toronto. Remember this: you don’t have to wait to be specially equipped to do great things for God. God loves to use the “little ol’ me’s” of the world to do amazing things!

P.S. I pray God moves upon you powerfully as you listen. As you’ve heard in the podcast, it took time for me to personally experience a powerful impartation. If this is your story as well, and you’re still in the process of calling upon the Lord for that powerful experience, I would encourage you to pray about coming to an event in-person so that you can have hands laid on you for impartation. I can’t stress this enough: there is nothing like receiving in-person ministry, with actual laying-on of hands. It’s real, it’s powerful, and God continues to use this pattern again and again. I bless you as you seek the Lord in this. You can search all of our events, hop straight to Voice of the Apostles →.

Thank you for sharing the revelations about the laying on of hands and baptism in the Holy Spirit, especially healing. But, I desire listen to the podcast with translation or subtitles (Portuguese specifically), it's possible? Because I don't have much understanding of English. Thank you in advance. Sorry the English. Bye blessed !

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So much was taught and explained. So much pressure was removed. So much hope and gratitude was given in this brief podcast. (And it was pretty funny at times.) Thank you for this.

Total Transformation! At Randy's 2010 Conference in Southern California, Will Hart was at the microphone and he unexpectedly called out my name: "Is Richard here?" My hand quickly shot into the air, and Will called me to the stage. As he prayed an impartation over me, I was touched by Holy Spirit and fell to the ground. Since my arms and legs were immobilized, I prayed "So Lord, what do we do now?" In an audible voice, He said "Just receive Me!" Then, He filled me with the most amazing Peace--a Peace that I had never before experienced. This was followed by an infilling of His Love. I saw the bright light of the Shekinah Glory. Wow! This whole thing was so good; but, unbeknownst to me, the best was yet to come. In my own church the next day, I had what I now see was a Divine Appointment with a women in her mid 80's who I had met two years earlier in Pennsylvania while I was touring her state. The chair next to her was open, so I sat down and started a conversation with her. Very quickly, she started telling me about this terrible pain she had been experiencing in her knee when she climbs stairs. I wasn't paying much attention to her story about the pain, and then I sensed Holy Spirit to be saying (in His small Voice) "Did you catch that?" So I asked about that knee once again and she told me her story again. Just at that point, I heard that very same audible Voice that I had heard while laying on the floor at the conference. It was three Words once again, but this time He said, "Heal her knee." Fortunately for me, my spirit was obedient and I told her that I got a Word from the Lord and He wanted me to pray for her knee. I then laid a hand on her knee and I said a short prayer asking God to heal her knee. The next day I got a call from her saying "The pain is gone! My knee is healed!" To think that the Creator of our Universe used me to bless this woman with the healing of her knee, I was overcome. Multiple encounters like this one continued throughout that year, and my life was set on a new course. Holy Spirit used me to start a Men's Prayer Team in our church, which continues to meet weekly to this day--8 years later. Numerous blessings have flowed out from this prayer team, and one of them is an inner healing ministry called "SOZO," a Greek word for Saved , Healed and Delivered. From a team, initially, of only five men, our SOZO team has grown (without any promotion by us) to a team of over 20 men and women. People hear about this ministry far and wide around our city of San Diego and just keep coming to us -- asking for the Lord's help with issues with which they struggle. We are blessed each time we do ministry to others (twice a month) just watching how the Lord is blessing them with inner and physical healing. This has certainly been a total transformation for me and for others. I can't thank you enough, Randy, for your ministry.

On June 22, 2007 Randy and Dan Moler were doing a Healing and Impartation meeting in Bethlehem Pa. Just before noon they had us line up for Laying on of hands and impartation. I was asking God for His touch. They prayed for everyone as they came down the line and prayed for me. I didn't feel anything. I remember thinking, "Am I having a Peter moment?" People were shaking on my Left and on my right. Two people were kicking me in the legs and I wasn't feeling anything. I remember saying, "Lord I believe I've received all that you wanted me to have when they prayed over me and laid their hands on my hands." I waited a few more minutes and they came by and prayed again. I didn't feel any power. I don't think I asked for power but I just waited. Then I went and sat down. But that night I prayed for Bejoice Angel, who was blind for 30 years. God gave me a download about her and after nearly 2 hours of forgiving her past, and speaking to the eyes, optic nerves etc., her sight was completely restored. Praise God. But I knew that I had received the power and there have been many healed since. I believed by faith and God delivered!

I love this. I’m reminded of when Jesus said, “The Father longs to give the Holy Spirit to all who ask.” And of course, “Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you…” How wonderful that we can ask in faith, trusting that God sends His Spirit to all who ask!

I would attend There is More or Voice of the Apostles or Encounter Ministries Conference 2020 if God gives me the resources to do so. That’s my obstacle to many many things right now. Also full healing of multiple (six) brain injuries and other injuries and their effects from various accidents is needed so that I can travel and return to working in whatever God’s plan is for me and my family. I haven’t been able to work to earn an income in five years and waiting on disability benefits income that long as well. God leads and I follow as he gives me the ability to do so. We’ve received many graces and blessings through all this but just not the major breakthroughs we really need now.

Hi Mary! We understand completely. This is partly why we put effort into publishing free resources like the blog posts, along with the free evening webcasts. We know that many folks aren’t yet in a position to make it out to an event or go on an international trip. I’m praying that you (and others) experience the fullness of breakthrough and empowerment right where you are, and that God funds your dreams to make pilgrimage to places of blessing.

Thank you for your prayers. ?
I have been prayed with many times and have been prophesied over many times as well. I know the Lord has amazing plans for us yet I’m sensing the need for others to contend with us for his plans to come to fulfillment.
I just attended the Encounter Ministries Summer Intensive School two weeks ago and received much. Just not healing and restoration yet. I was only able to go due to the generosity of family and friends and the hospitality of those friends as well which included traveling with them and they watching out for me due to my injuries effects especially neurofatigue. God is so good! My faith life has greatly increased and deepened because of these injuries which have caused 14 years of debilitating effects since I was 33, the worst being the last five years after the fourth injury. I’ve gone to places for actual healing treatments and received so much more than I expected spiritually, etc because of who I had fellowship with while there. Unexpected graces and blessings. But I know God has much more for us than what we are currently enduring. I’ve been reliably told so many times by various faith filled Christian ministries leaders.
Again thank you for your prayers as they really do mean so much to us.

And I don’t just mean for my family and I but what God’s plans are for us to be doing with and for others. I know there’s much more ahead than I could ask for.

Thank you Randy for your love of God and for your teachings on The Holy Spirit. I have been inspired to move forward in my walk with Jesus. I received the Baptism many years ago. I am 82 years old and have a ministry reaching the residents at the nursing home near where I live. Many have come to Jesus.
God bless you as you continue your work.
