Pastoring Revival While Avoiding Burnout

How do we help people move forward into a new thing that God is doing? When you see revival happening, how can you lead others into the revival, and (just as important), how do you keep from burning out once revival starts?

I’ve been there. As the pastor of a church, I saw God moving in Brownsville and Toronto (and all around the world). At first I wasn’t sure if it was really God who was at work, but once He touched me in the parking lot at Brownsville — before I even made it into the service! — I knew this was important. But how could I help my church encounter God in this way?

Leading others into revival isn’t easy. Our tendency is to push people, but I learned that pushing never works. It burns leaders out, and it frustrates those under their leadership. Remember that all Christ-followers are called to leadership at some level; it’s not just full-time senior pastors who lead! So whether you are a business owner, a parent, or simply a believer looking to see God move in your neighborhood, it is crucial to look at the lessons learned by others to know how to bring people into what God’s doing.

On today’s podcast episode, we sat down for a great conversation about this topic. We cover many of the key lessons I learned, including:

  • How to encounter God for yourself.
  • How to lead others into the move of God.
  • How to sustain revival, avoiding the pitfalls that cause it to sizzle out.
  • Discerning between God-inspired manifestations, demonic manifestations, and fleshly manifestations, and how to deal with them.
  • How to avoid personal burnout as a leader in the midst of revival.

PS) As you heard, I have a big heart for helping leaders have a safe place to pour out their hearts, to receive teaching & resources, to be under a life-giving accountability framework, and to help them avoid the mistakes I’ve made along the way. I mentioned the Apostolic Network of Global Awakening in the interview; if you are a pastor, ministry leader, or missionary, I would encourage you to prayerfully consider joining the Network. We believe in you, and would love to join arms with you! Click to learn about the Network →
