Worship, Warfare, and the Kingdom: An Interview With Jeremy Riddle

The Past, Present, & Future of Worship

There is much warfare over worship these days. Never before have we had a situation where one can become famous for leading worship. This is our reality, and it can be good or bad depending on the heart of the worshipper. In this interview, I have a conversation with Jeremy Riddle. Jeremy and I share a common history with the Vineyard movement, and we continue to look backwards and forwards for what God has done and is continuing to do.

This was a fun interview for me, and I really felt the presence of God on our conversation. It’s good to remember where we’ve come from in light of where we want to go.

What is true revival? How can we stay pure in our hearts when we become well-known? How do we pastor a move of God so that it sustains and continues to honor God?

These are big questions. They are important questions. John Wimber said, “More is caught than taught.” My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will continue to move in all of us, to catch what He’s doing, to catch His heart.

Action Point: I invite you to comment below about your own experience and understanding of what defines pure worship. What defines revival. Perhaps tell us about your favorite experience in worship. What concerns you about modern worship?

at 20 minutes and 14 seconds when Jeremy said hes restoring the heart of it,worship, i saw as he moved his finger around momentarily in a circular motion, it was a circle like of cloven fire that came to rest upon all that were in the room

I encountered the power of worship during a dark time battling deep depression. After two long years, I put my kids to bed, got alone with God, a CD player and headphones. I inserted a worship CD and told God, “I won’t move from here until You deliver me.” I set the CD player on replay, layes on the floor and pressed “play”. I worshipped, cried and prayed and worshipped. 7 hours later, 5:30 am, I got up went to bed for a bit, having to take my daughter to school by 7:30, and realized I felt lighter. During the night, God delivered me!! 24 years later and not a hint of depression. Whom the Lord sets free, is free indeed. We are told to put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, and I am a witness of the power of praise. To God be ALL the glory!!

That is so awesome. It reminds me of time when my spouse left n I cried for months with a worship CD n one of my favoritte songs on it was a prayer and I see God fulfilling it today....God prepared me to be a sanctuary.....

Wow, this has SO MUCH on it, so many layers. I think it applies to all leaders and pastors, not just worship. If leaders and pastors could bring themselves to this point of total surrender to the Presence of Papa-God, even in the public eye “on stage” on Sunday, every church would be filled to overflowing.

Your questions on moving with God throughout life are heart-riveting.
What comes to mind in defining revival with a favorite worship experience occurred in Denver during Awake America’s visit. I was among a group of intercessors from across the region under their prayer leader Lila. The gathering was bathed in prayer. She gave strict instructions of conducting ourselves in such a way that we did not draw attention from God working sovereignly in our midst.
To be in a large arena of people where Holy Spirit swept through from the start in such a pronounced way is life-changing.
The keyboard player could no longer play. The group of leaders on the platform were staggering or falling out of their seat. One well groomed woman rolled on the floor. I don’t remember her getting up, but heard later that was her first experience with Holy Spirit even though she was traveling with her husband on this revival tour.
The atmosphere of our worship was enfolded In Presence all evening.
Steve Hill spoke on holiness and an astounding number of people rushed forward for deliverance from pornography and sexual sin.

We were also in Kona YWAM in 1988! We love Bob and Kathy Fitts too.
What an amazing video on actual worship! Love!
Can we continue to make room, space for the Holy Spirit in each of our churches.

We heard Tasha Cobbs sing 'This is a Move' at the There is More conference in August..
This has become a prayer of my heart. We need a move God and worship is the key.

As I watch this I am in tears. All that Jeremy poured out confirms the need of the body and what is critical to my hearts survival. It is by the spirit of God not the efforts of man. God is marrying prayer and song and the key to both is reverence...let my heart be the soil for the planting of the Lord and my body to be a greenhouse and incubator for his tender presence as the fire of God is birthed let the release birth a movement of purity and as my lips part I pray the fullness of His presence will be made manifest to transform the lost and hopeless. I lean, surrender, cultivate and press into the Lord so I am yoked with Him and led in the Way He would have me to go for His Kingdom purposes. Lord Lord abide is my deepest desire. Burning Vibrant! So good is our Father and His heart is what I long for. Amazing wisdom. Jeremy has poured out wisdom from Heaven because he fears the Lord!!! Yes, I hear the song, sound and will buy the book

Yes! It’s refreshing, I find, to hear someone expound with both passion and intelligence on the topic of worship.
