If we want to bring peace, reconciliation, and hope to our world, we must abide by the Word of God, by the ways of God, and by the nature of God.
In John 13:34,35 Jesus said, “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” We are in a time of exposure, where darkness is being uncovered and brought to light. We see hatred, division, narcissism, greed, and all kinds of brokenness. But God has a plan: love always wins.
Jesus fulfilled the law and died on the cross, demostrating what love truly looks like. We are called (and empowered by the Holy Spirit) to turn around and die to ourselves so that the world can know God’s love through us. Truly, God’s law is beautiful as we live in this law of love, we experience God in a new way and those around us see Jesus.
The First, The Greatest…
But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
A Prayer: Holy Spirit, baptise us in your love afresh. Burn away selfishness, pride, and everything that’s not of you. Guide us into all truth this week, that we would know the word, ways, and nature of God. Teach us your beautiful law of love, that we would be agents of change in this world.
