From Grief to Healing: Overcoming Anxiety and Depression

My small team went with Richie Seltzer to a small church Sunday morning. A woman came for prayer. I asked her, “What would you like Jesus to do for you this morning?” With a sad face, she said, “I have been suffering with stomach and digestive issues, depression and anxiety.

I asked her, “When did it start?” She thought for a moment, started weeping, and said, “It started four years ago. After my Aunt died. We were very close, and I loved her very much, and I miss her terribly.” I opened my arms and she stepped forward to be hugged and comforted. I held her for awhile and told her that her Aunt must have been very special and that I would have loved to meet her. I shared that grieving is holy, hard work and validated her feelings.

I invited Holy Spirit to come in, comfort her heart, and to fill the place of loss with the Father’s love. She felt His presence as He poured His love and comfort, peace and joy into her. She stepped back out of the embrace, her face lit up with the light of His presence, smiling.

I asked her if there was any pain or discomfort left, and she looked surprised as she realized it was all gone! Oh, the comfort and love of God walks through the valley of the shadow with us, bringing us into the Light and healing!
